American Cheese vs Candian Cheese?

I live in Vancouver so I shop in the US sometimes and I've noticed American cheese, whether its cheddar or swiss or anything, tastes alot more bland than Canadian cheese. Canadian cheese has a much sharper taste. know why this is?
There are some answers for your reference as below, you can choose your best answers

Being a former chef and having worked in B.C years ago and bought cheese when visiting Blaine WA on Friday night trips to the Pussycat Theater, Canadian cheese is more like English cheddars, even our Swiss is made more in the Switzerland style.

American cheese is still very good and has for years been less expensive than ours even though our dairy industry is heavily subsidized, there method are the same it is the salting of the curds and bacterias used to age the cheese, American's tend to like younger more mild flavoured cheese, it is more a matter of taste than quality.

American cheese no competition. lol.

ummm...because Canadian cows have better milk? i dunno you tell me

True American cheese has the taste and texture of a third-grader's rain slicker.

You should try the New Zealand mainland cheese its to die for especially the Vintage.

i like striiiinnnnnggg cheeeesssseeee.
it entertains me =P

never been to canada.

Canadian cows are smarter, lol. No but actually its probly coz America puts so much crap in our food it can hardly be called "food" at all.

cheese is still cheese and cheese is good

USA all the frickin' way, baby!

All i know is cheese from Wisconsin and California is supposed to be the best, maybe your not buying sharp cheese when you come to the US. Canada has some good stuff like fries with gravy, but I've never heard of them being famous for their cheese.

Beats me, cheese is cheese. Maybe it wasn't a good cow's milk or something. Although I live in Michigan, which is pretty close to Canada.

yeah, theres proabably too much crap in the food or the canadians raise the cows better

Perhaps Canadian cheese is aged longer. I believe sharpness comes largely from how long it's aged. For a sharper cheese in America look for Vermont sharp white cheddar.

That's strange because we have homes in both Montr??al and Boston and of the standard popular cheeses we find the American sharper. But maybe because we are graced by the sharp cheeses of Vermont and New York whilst when you go to Washington State they are mostly the milder cheeses of Oregon (Tillamook) and California, something of local variance in demand preferance.

Since you must have stores of Loblaws organization in Vancouver try their President's Choice aged cheddars (up to 6 years).
