Chinese food.... healthy?????
Is chinese food healthy that i get at a chinses restaurant?
the rice, the chicken, the chop suey..
(There are some answers for your reference as below, you can choose your best answers)
actual Chinese food is healthy, however what you get from a restaurant in the USA is not really Chinese food, its actually Polynesian, which for the most part is unhealthy, a way to make the food you get from these take out places more healthy, ask for the sauce on the side, and opt for brown rice instead (more and more restaurants are starting to offer this) Most restaurants will offer a lighter selection of dishes consisting of steamed veggies, and shrimp or chicken with little or no sauce...but for the most part, a lot of fat and sodium are in the favorite selections at these dining establishments
Umm..thats fast food :/
well, typically the food has a very heavy sauce that is ridiculously high in sodiem, but some offer healthy choices.. i think you just have to look around
if you get brown rice and steamed veggies it is better for you. Chinese food generally contains a deadly amount of sodium, ask them to prepare it in chicken broth instead of the normal soy/MSG products they use. i love Chinese food!
Tips for lowering fat and calories when you order food from a Chinese take-out restaurant.
Do...
Reduce the amount of meat in your meal.
Order more vegetable dishes or dishes that have a high proportion of vegetables, such as Beef with Broccoli.
Order steamed rice. Filling up on steamed rice will mean you eat less of the other dishes. Another reason to eat rice is that it is a complex carbohydrate. Besides being low in calories, complex carbohydrates boost the metabolism.
Stick to Cantonese cuisine if possible. Cantonese dishes tend to be lighter and use fresh ingredients.
Let the restaurant know your dietary needs so that they can accommodate you if possible.
Cut down on sodium the day you are planning to order Chinese food. Most Chinese restaurant dishes have a very high sodium count.
Don't...
Order deep-fried dishes such as Kung Pao Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Mu Shu Pork, or even Egg Rolls.
Order fried rice. The eggs in fried rice mean a high cholesterol count.
Order dishes with nuts (another reason to say no to Kung Pao and General Tso's Chicken). In moderation, nuts are quite healthy, and a staple in most Asian diets. In fact, recent studies indicate that peanuts (which is not really a nut at all, but a legume) may even lower cholesterol. But take-outs use way too much. Unless you can persuade them to reduce the amount, steer clear of all the tempting chicken and nut combinations.
Order dishes with heavy sauces.
It *can* be... depends on what you're ordering and how it's prepared. Heavy salt? MSG? Heavy Oil? Fried?
rice is a decent grain... brown rice (not fried rice) would be better.
chicken is usually a better choice over beer or pork... but it depends on how it's cooked - steamed or stir-fried is good. deep fried or served in a heavy glaze is not so good.
Anything steamed, not fried.
It is fast food, But it all depends what you eat!
It is high in fat and salt...
