Is chinese food bad for you?

i always order chicken noodle soup (but i throw out all the chicken) and mixed vegetables in a garlic sauce.

is it unhealthy? lots of calories or fat? are there vitamins/minerals/nutrional value?
There are some answers for your reference as below, you can choose your best answers

It depends on whether you take out or eat in.

Either way chinese food is one of the healthier options out there. Avoid deep-fried dishes, and go for fried vegetables and lean meats (for example, beef in black bean sauce with green peepers, and a side order of plain rice). Fried rice is delicious, but isn't often too good for your waistline, so plain boiled rice or noodles are better choices.

The meal you order is good. Skinless chicken isn't especially calorific anyway, and the vegetables will be stir fried in garlic. This is good not only because stir-frying retains a great meany of the nutrients found in the vegetables, but also because garlic has excellent health properties.

Be aware of MSG - it isn't good for those on a low sodium diet. There are no other proven health issues with eating MSG though (though myths have circulated for years). Note also that soy sauce is high in salt, so go easy on it or try to find special low-sodium varieties.

its not bad for you.. the only thing is the oil...its fattening

Yah it does have alot of calories, but I think it is like any other junk food. Just enjoy it.

no, it's the chinese you have to look out for, and the imports we get from them

It depends on how it is prepared. You should make sure you check out the usual salt and sugar content. That's the key.

Whether Chinese food (or any other food, for that matter) is bad for you depends on how it is prepared. When ordering Chinese food, the easiest way to avoid excess fat is to not order anything deep-fried. Stir-fried and steamed dishes are much healthier. Also, avoid duck, fried rice, and pan-fried noodles at all costs--they're loaded with fat.

And if you order chicken soup, why do you toss out the chicken? Aren't there any vegetarian soups on the menu? The things you order sound pretty good, calorie-wise, unless the vegetables are cooked in too much oil. In general, vegetarian dishes are lower in calories than meat dishes, so you're probably doing yourself a favor by ordering vegetables. All dishes in Chinese restaurants tend to be high in salt, however--if you have high blood pressure, you should avoid Chinese altogether.

I can't really tell you anything about the vitamins and nutrional value of those dishes without knowing exactly what's in them and exactly how much you ate. But, since all you're ordering is vegetables and soup, I assume that there's a fair amount of vitamins, minerals, and fiber to balance out the fat and salt.

Does this answer your questions?

well not really because they have lots of seafoods good for you but dont try oily foods like orange chicken

i think so bec. of the addition of monosodium glugamate (MSG)or chinese salt in most of the chinese dishes, which is a taste enhancer. Chinese food minus MSG, shouldnot be a problem for health. Bon apetit

NO
where do you live >>?
chicken,,,, you can not discern chicken from beef..??
IT CAN NOT be unhealthy otherwise they are out of business.
You are not being honest,, ?? are you out to slur the name Chinese..
A whole chicken is less than $1.89/lb
many Asian resturants grow their own vegetables or buy from family gardens.. to keep costs down..

Now, Chinese TAKEAWAY is bad for you.

They contain lots of salt and MSG, which isnt too good, also some of the oils used could be fattening. Most of the vitamins might of been lost.

Chinese food is not.
If you prepare it yourself (or go to china and have it there) it will be incredibly healthy.
Chinese cuisine is one of the healthiest in the world.
All the recipes say from fresh, they keep all their nutrition and are prepared healthily.

If you go to a fast food Chinese joint you will rarely see the Chinese workers eating the food they sell so... use your own judgment.

Check to see how frequent the place is visited to see if how often the food is recycled. The same holds true for other sit-in restaurants.

MSG is also a problem although no study has concluded it's destructiveness, it is linked to many health problems from high blood pressure to eczema,to cancer.

MSG is in many food we eat secretly:
MSG Gelatin Calcium Caseinate
Monosodium glutamate Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP) Textured Protein
Monopotassium glutamate Hydrolyzed Plant Protein (HPP) Yeast Extract
Glutamate Autolyzed Plant Protein Yeast food or nutrient
Glutamic Acid Sodium Caseinate Autolyzed Yeast
Vegetable Protein Extract
