Pros of a meat-based diet?
I am writing a paper for school on vegetarianism vs. meat-based diets, and I have to give pros and cons of both. Could someone please list a few pros of eating meat? Cons of going veg?
There are some answers for your reference as below, you can choose your best answers
There may be pros, but I can't think of any that are exclusive to a meat-centric diet. Meat has protein, iron, selenium (which evidently IS an antioxidant) and B vitamins. But all of these things can easily be found in plant foods, so it's not much of a pro... especially when you consider the unhealthy things they come packaged with in meat.
About the only con of going vegetarian that I can think of is social pressures. It's easier and more convenient to go along with the majority.
meat is high in antioxidants..they have a readily available source of proteins and contain full chains of amino acids.....there is absolutely nothing wrong with meat in moderation
there can be cons of a veg based diet...a lot of new young vegetarians dont do their research and think they can get by, by eating just regular salads and they will be fine...if you dont do your research it can be bad for you.
Hubunny are you dense he didn't ask for POSSIBLE risks of meat consumption...how bout you read the question before trolling
Scottie...meat DOES have both antioxidant and pro oxidant levels present
Scottie, once again she didn't ask for cons...but you just had to have your little say....and you moan at us for not answering the question
EDIT thank you i would say the same but i wont....i dont care what you think...so why when someone asks a question about pros of meat you just cant resist saying bad things about it...bet you would never say make sure you research vegetarianism before you do it to make sure you get your nutrients....nooooo course not you would never do something to potentially harm it.....
EDIT scottie you think its morally indefensable to kill for your taste buds??? those are your words...well you kill a plant when you eat it...so you are still killing for your tastebuds...therefore that argument is N/A congratulations on making yourself look stupid
EDIT scottie you are braking your religion...its says thou shall not kill...the plants dont fcuking commit suicide you know? so isnt that hypocritical???????????????
Rheumatic diseases
Bone diseases
Tumor diseases
Hypercholesterinemia
Diabetes mellitus
Mad Cow Disease
Iron and oxidative stress
Psyche and cortisol level
BSE and immune reactions
Environmental toxins
Meat has NO antioxidant content. Antioxidants include vitamin c, beta carotene, there is NO vitamin C or beta carotene in meat.
However it is high in protein, supplying all 8 amino acids!
I get my protein from soya cheeses, yogurt, soya milk, beans, nut and seeds! Sorry for misunderstanding you. I'm a vegetarian too ;-)
The bad thing about meat is that it has been linked to various cancers. It also may contribute to obesity. Take a look around. Vegetarians tend to be leaner/thinner.
I personally think it's morally indefensible to kill ANY animal for my tastebuds. Slaughterhouses are not natural.
Also my religion- ''Thou shalt not kill''- Gods own words.
Good question, you can have a star! ;-)
THERE AREN"T ANY PROS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fact of the mater is that there is no pros or cons to either diet. the Vegans would like for you to think it is all about Being healthier and less cancer or less cruelty. But Vegetarians suffer from cancer, Enema and other diseases the same as Carnivores. In all actuality just the promotion of being a Vegetarian is cruel because they have to produce their slanderous videos somehow. The notion that the vegetarians are more fit is also just that. People are People and it isn't what you eat it is how you eat. I Like meat and i like vegetables but each have their place. I Don't worry when i go to the doctor if i have enema or cancer there are way to many other things that can do that to you then your diet. ART has a logical argument and there is plenty of antioxidants in meat Hubunny really need to do more research on her list because there is plenty of those diseases in vegetables Scottie also needs to do more research. The pros of a meat based diet is _ Healthier the Pros of a vegetarian diet Healthier the cons of them are the same Poor Nutrition. as a meat eater we don't have to search for something we are lacking as a vegetarian you have to look for whats laking in your diet. Now lets quit this bickering and start treating each other as we expect to be treated with respect.

You're better to look at literature that discusses nutrition rather than on a Yahoo! Answers forum.
the only pro i can think of isn't based on the diet itself, but the fact that everywhere you go that's what you can find. i sometimes find it hard if i'm at someone's house, or out and about come meal time to find something i want to eat that is vegetarian. look at the fast food chains... not that i want to eat fast food, but how many of them have a vegetarain item on their menu??? so i guess the pro would be, because of the society we live in is meat based, meat is the most readily available and offered item on menu's.
CONS Vegetarian:
* "The only reliable unfortified sources of vitamin B12 are meat, dairy products and eggs."
We take supplements because B-12 comes from meats.
**** "...meat is the very best and most easily absorbed source of iron"
** CONS Meat eaters:
Cholesterol leading to clogged arteries
Antibiotics in animal foods passed on to meat eaters
Occasional contamination of meats passed on by undercooking
More expensive to feed the masses than vegetables.
Many pounds of grain and grasses needed to produce one pound of meat, (waste of resources)
Gases released by bovine flatulence (Really)
*** "According to the United Nation???s Food and Agriculture Organization, which also estimates that livestock production generates nearly a fifth of the world???s greenhouse gases ??” more than transportation"
