What's the dumbest thing you've ever done while cooking?

Mine was trying to take a pie out of the oven without potholders, I realized about half way out that my hands were really, really burning! And that damn pie made a horrible mess when I dropped it, of course, insult to injury.. :)
There are some answers for your reference as below, you can choose your best answers

I was making homemade chicken soup. I boiled up the chicken and the veggies for an hour and a half, got the tongs to take the chicken and carrots out, put the colander in the sink and strained the stock right down the drain! DUH - I didn't put the colander in another pot to save the stock. WAS I MAD at myself!!! Must have gotten distracted, because at that time I wasn't a novice cook...
You only do that once!
Love reading all these stories!

I was once cooking, the cake was in the oven and it turned out looking perfect and chocolaty, but when I tried it, I realized I had accidentally mixed up the sugar and the salt... it was a mess!!! the cake was really salty and yuck! I wasted all my time, effort and ingredients. And when I was younger, I started a cake form scratch, I mean, literally scratch, and it came out tasty. I just poured a bit of flour, some cocoa, sugar... other stuff and it was actually really good. Your incident was also kinda weird!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was making dinner and of course had my fiance talking to me, the phone ringing and the dog barking and so I was pretty distracted. I forgot to devein and peel my shrimp and dumped them right into my sauce. Boy - that was a fun time. Rapidly trying to scoop them out before they could get cooked, meanwhile I am pretty sure my pasta water was overflowing and my bread in the oven was burning. That was a bad night.

Oh yeah. I've done that twice in one week, no less. I burned the inside sides of both elbows pulling things out of the oven with potholders, but without pulling the rack out. I was a bartender and had to have huge ugly bandages on both elbows during the Sturgis motorcycle rally! It hurt so so badly... When people asked what happened, I had to say, "Drunken cooking!"

Set a pot of hot fat on fire and then put it in the sink and turned the tap on.
What a mess, I would rather clean up your pie than the cleaning I had to do.

i was boiling water to cook soup in and i put the noodles in it and somebody called so i forgot about the noodles/water and when i came back, all the water boiled away out of the pot!

i was making coffee in the microwave and i forgot to put the water in the cup almost broke

Making a flambe to impress a chick, I set my kitchen on fire. Thank god I had some water nearby.

PRE: Why do people stop eating if they are having an arguement?   NEXT: How much pot do you have to eat to get high?
