I always wondered the same thing.
If Americans ever saw a real Chinese menu( a'la fried Duck Tongues ) and all.
They'd be running for the exit!!
Maybe cause Chinese people own the places and are usually the ones who are cooking the food.
Because it's called "Chinese Food".
because people in the USA don't ask questions about their food. bacon= pork belly, do you think people in the USA would want to eat that, no
It is Chinese food cooked in America. Mostly they are not an authentic Chinese cooking. But there are places that make authentic Chinese food in America, using fresh ingredients and spices. If you go to Chinatown in San Francisco, there are a lot of places that cook authentic Chinese food along with Chinese food for westeners. Besides, what would you call it instead - "They're-not-really Chinese-food-food." It's closer to Chinese food without going to China, wouldn't you say. Should we now consider Italian food cooked in America - that is owned by non-Italian and cooked by other ethnicity, but using the right technique and ingredients like a lot of Chinese restaurants, no longer Italian food? And what about the new chef in China who is fusing other style with Chinese food, are they no considered not Chinese food or can't we even call them Chinese fusion food? France has a lot of influenced Vietnamese cooking - can they no longer be considered Vietnamese food? Something to think about.
Because- I've never been to a Chinese-Restaurant who only served cheese burger and chips, Roast beef with roast potatoes , they all got spring rolls, chinese friend rice , chowmein, peking duck etc-etc..in the menu..
If Chinese people ate the crap that's cooked in Western so called Chinese Restaurants they'd all be as fat as fools. It's no more authentic than leprechauns that are 'made in taiwan'.
